IDENTITY CRISIS CH.24

The nurse was reattaching Dean's IV to his left wrist this time, with even more tape then before to hold it in place. Since Dean was alone with the nurse, and Sam had left to find Alex, he figured he would try working his Dean Winchester magic on her. Sure enough, his plan was working better then expected. He had told the nurse that he saved somebody drowning in a pool, which is how he got hypothermia. To her, he was a hero who cared about his family, which was true. Those little facts made it even better. Because for once, he wasn't lying to get a woman's phone number...Which he did.

While Dean was hooking up with the nurse, Sam was walking down the hallway towards the nursery. When he had arrived, he was surprised that Hana was nowhere to be seen. He headed back to his room to see if Alex was there, but he doubted she would.

"Have you seen Alex?" Sam asked upon entering the room. He noticed the young and attractive nurse was gone, but her perfume still lingered in the air.

"Not since the exorcism." Dean said as he placed a small piece of paper on the table sitting next to his bed.

Sam sighed and looked back out of the door. "She wasn't in the nursery and neither was Hana."

Dean shrugged, "Maybe she went for a walk?"

"With an IV in her wrist? And a stomach flu?" Sam crossed his arms.

"Good point. You know, I would help you look for her but..." Dean held up his left wrist and acted like he wished he could help.

Catching on to his brother's act, Sam shook his and looked around the hallway again. This time he stayed around Dean's door in case Alex would come back. He turned around to check the other rooms, but bumped into somebody. "Sorry." Sam said with a fake smile, because he was still worried about where Alex disappeared to. Once he looked into those brown eyes, something familiar clicked in his brain.

"Oh, don't worry about it. I really should have watched where I was...Do I know you?" She asked getting a better look at his face, as did Sam to her.

"Luisa, right?" Sam asked remembering the run in they had about eight months ago on June ninth. The only reason he remembered, was that was the day he saved Alex from Danny. Not only that, it was the day before her birthday, which was when her curse had started becoming worse.

"Yeah." She nodded her head smiling. "Wow! Sam, I thought I would never see you again!" Luisa said with a laugh. "What are you doing here?"

"My cousin and brother are here actually."

"Oh yeah! Wasn't your cousin having a hard time last year or something?"

Sam was shocked at her memory. "Wow. You actually remembered that?"

"Yeah! I just remembered how sweet that was and hoped that everything was okay. I don't really meet a lot people now-a-days. Especially cute, single guys that care." Luisa quickly realized what she said and changed the subject. "So, how is she?"

"She's fine...except she's here." Sam said trying to get his wording right. "So what are you in here for?"

"I was in a car accident." She held up her broken arm that was resting in a sling. "A guy gave me a ride and the weather was just awful, we hit a car head on."

Sam's eyes widened. "How's the guy?"

"He's fine, but he has a concussion." Luisa explained. "I was actually looking for him. I wanted to thank him for the ride, considering how it ended."

"I would help you out, but I'm actually looking for my cousin right now." Sam said as he scanned the hallway again. "You didn't see a woman carrying a baby..." He trailed off with a sigh, realizing that he was in a hospital where a woman walking around with a baby would be a common site. "Forget it."

Their little reunion was interrupted when Dean came out of his room. "Any luck?" Dean asked with a smirk on his face.

Not even realizing what Dean was implying, Sam sighed. "No."

"That's not what I was talking about."

Sam turned to Dean with a confused expression, which faded away when he realized what Dean meant. "Shouldn't you be lying down in bed?"

Dean smiled and leaned against the door frame. "Shouldn't you be looking for our cousin and her baby?" Dean looked at Luisa and smiled. "Are you going to introduce me to your friend, Sam?" Dean extended his hand to shake and Luisa excepted. "I'm Dean, the older brother."

"Luisa. Hi." She smiled.

"We met at a gas station in Wisconsin last summer." Sam explained. "It was when I went to find Alex after she was kidnapped by Danny."

"Who's Danny?" Luisa asked curiously.

"It's a long story." Dean told her. "So let me get this straight. When you should have been saving your cousin, you were out flirting with girls?"

"I was filling up the truck with gas. What was I supposed to do, walk?"

Dean was about to retort back when they both heard a beep come from Luisa's pocket. She quickly pulled out her phone to see who left her a text message.

"Oh no." Luisa snapped shut her flip phone and quickly shoved it back into her pocket, faster then she pulled it out.

"Is something wrong?" Sam noted the scared look on her face and started to get concerned.

"No! I mean, no. It's nothing, just a little family drama." Luisa looked around and started to get a little jumpy. "Listen, Sam. I don't mean to cut this short or anything, but I really have to get going."

"Luisa, are you sure everything is okay?" Sam started digging in his pockets for something.

"I'll be fine. Really." Luisa confirmed with a lack of confidence.

Sam was reluctant about her statement, but there was really nothing her could do to stop her. "All right. Here." Sam said as he handed her a piece of paper that he just wrote his number on. "Call me if you ever need anything."

"Thanks." Luisa pocketed the slip of paper and started to walk away. "Hey!" Luisa started walking back to them. "Could you do me a favor?"

"Uh, sure."

"If you by any chance see a guy named Kyle, could you tell him I said thank you." Luisa asked, looking into Sam's eyes. "And give this to him?" She held out a small, brown teddy bear. "It's for his daughter, Hana."

Sam simply nodded his head in shock that she knew Kyle. "Sure."

"Thanks. Bye."

Before he could ask her any more questions, she was already down the hallway.

"What do you think that was all about?" Dean asked as he stepped up, next to his brother.

Sam kept his gaze at the end of the hallway. "I'm not sure."

"She looked pretty freaked out. I hope she's going to be okay." Dean walked back into his room and on to his bed.

Sam looked down at the teddy bear in his hands and sighed. "Me too."

Some time later that night, Kyle had walked Alex back to her room and handed Hana off to Sam. He had asked that Sam take care of her for the night, instead of her being in the hands of a stranger. So Sam had taken Hana back to the hotel with him, while Kyle went back to his room leaving Alex and Dean alone. Hours past with silence and eventually Alex fell asleep. Dean on the other hand was wide awake feeling guilty for what he had put her through. He couldn't just fall asleep knowing that she was upset with him. It's not like he intentionally wanted to hurt her. He was just trying to hurt what he thought was a shapeshifter that was trying to hurt her.

He glanced over at her sleeping form and knew he had to wake her up. Part of him felt guilty for doing it, but he had to get it off his chest and let her know how he felt.

Letting a out a heavy sigh, Dean pulled himself up into a sitting position and slid his legs over the edge of the bed. Once his feet hit the cool tile of the hospital room floor, he knew there was no turning back. He stood up and slowly walked over to her bedside in the shadow covered room. The moonlight reflected off of her face, making her look almost like porcelain doll. Dean sat down on the side of her bed and rested his hand on her shoulder and gently shook her awake. "Alex?" He heard her moan as she turned her head towards the window. "Alex, wake up."

Finally opening her eyes, Alex rolled over to face him. "Dean? What time is it?" Squinting her eyes, Alex tried to read the time on the clock that hung on wall.

Dean glanced at the clock, but it was too dark to read. "I honestly have no idea." Dean admitted and saw that Alex was waiting for him to explain why he woke her up. "I wanted to talk to you about something." He paused while he gathered up his thoughts in order. "Back at the hotel I know I scared cr*p out of you. I want you to understand that I never would hurt you intentionally."

"But you did." Alex whispered, almost afraid that he would hit her again.

It pained Dean to hear those words, but then he realized that she didn't know about the misunderstanding. Sure they had taught her about demons and spirits, but they didn't really go into detail about all of the other supernatural creatures that lurked in the shadows and dark corners of the world. When it came to hunting, Alex knew very little. The reason they didn't tell her much was the fact that she has a normal life. She is not a hunter and never wanted to be apart of this life, she was just forced to know about it. In a way she reminded Dean of Sam, when he had gone off to Stanford.

"When I hit you, I thought you were this creature called a shapeshifter. They can transform themselves to look like anyone, and it's not easy to tell them apart from the person who's identity is stolen. The only way you can tell is if their eyes flash this white flare, which can be easily seen through a camera." Dean explained to Alex, trying to see if she understood what he was saying. "I was just worried that you were either tied up somewhere while a monster took your place, or that you were dead. I never thought it was you. Do you understand?" He asked tentatively.

Alex nodded her head without looking at him and said, "Yes."

Dean was relieved to hear that and only hoped that she would except what he said next. "Hey, listen. Alex, I never got the chance to tell you, with all that has happened in the past twenty-four hours, but I'm sorry." There was a silence that started to make Dean nervous, but then Alex said something that made his eyes go wide with confusion.

"Don't apologize to me, Dean. I don't deserve it." Alex looked up at Dean with a plan expression on her face.

"What are you talking about? Of course I should. Have you looked at your face lately? It's not a pretty site." Dean could not understand why Alex was saying this. He hit her nine times and few of them knocked her unconscious.

"Good." Alex said with boldness in her voice.

Dean started to wonder what was going on with Alex and why she was acting this way. "No, its not good, Alex. I was about to kill you."

"And you should have."

Dean was shocked and taken aback. "Whoa! What?!" He couldn't believe what he was hearing. 'It has to be the medication.', he thought. Could she really feel that low about herself, even after she had a baby? Maybe he should tell her the real reason why they were at the same hotel. But he made a promise and he wouldn't break it.

"You should have killed me. I murdered people and I enjoyed it." Alex looked out the window as her eyes glistened and started to well up with tears. "I'm a horrible person."

Dean let out a sigh and closed his eyes in anger, not towards her, but towards the demon that did this to her. "Alex, It wasn't your fault. I don't blame you. You weren't yourself."

"No?" Alex said looking at Dean. "I killed those people, Dean. My emotions were being controlled. I had a choice. Sure, Morana told me who to kill, but nobody told me how to kill them."

"So what? You're a serial killer now?" Dean watched as Alex looked away from him. "That's not you, Alex. You're not like that. I've seen the way you treat Hana, and I gotta tell you, that does not scream: cold-hearted b*tch to me."

"I'm not so sure any more."

"And I blame the demon for that. That's what they do; mess with your mind and question your way of life. You can not take what they say as the truth." Dean watched Alex sit there in silence. "Are you going to be okay?"

"I don't know." Alex whispered as a tear fell down her face. As Dean placed a comforting hand on hers, she pulled it away. Watching her hand slide away, slowly out from underneath his made Dean feel terrible. He looked at her face, but she didn't look at him. Things were never going to be the same between them, and he knew it.

"I just need some time to deal with this."

Dean nodded his head and stood up. "All right." He was going to walk over to his bed, but stopped. "Hey, Alex? I can't tell you the reason why, but it wasn't just a coincidence that we ended up at the same hotel. Kyle told me to come here." Dean smiled as Alex gave him a questioning look. "Good night." Okay, so he hinted that something was going on, but he never broke the promise.

Aww I'm sorry for the false hope. :(

I was wrorking on it the other day and was like "this is getting pretty long. I've almost got enough for a chapter, but I really want to add this in at the end" Then I thought, you guys wouldn't care if it was longer then the norm! Plus I have made you wait way too long. So I'm going to make the ending of this really mean something. Whether its for the readers or the characters.

Aw! You didn't have to risk your sleep for it!!! I'm sure another day wouldn't have killed us.

But yeah,'twas awesome.

And Poor Dean and Alex...I hope things go back to normal...well as normal as things get around the Winchesters anyways.

I was inspired and on a roll! It was totally worth it! Oddly enough, I was feeling ill and for some reason wanted to update. lol It was really odd.

Thank you.

Yeah, they got some things that need to be worked out. It's actually going to make the next two stories very interesting. I'm not saying that they don't or do have another talk in this chapter, but things are going to be different. But I think the ending of this story should help a little with that... ;)
