Early the next morning, Sam and Dean were already packed and ready to head down to Powderville. They didn't want to just leave Alex alone, but they had no choice. There was a shapeshifter that needed to be killed.
Instead of just leaving without warning, they decided to invite Alex to breakfast with them. They walked down to Alex's room and left their bags in their rooms. Sam knocked on the door three times, and there was no answer. "Alex? You awake?" Sam called to her through the door.
They both sat there for a minute, but didn't hear any footsteps. "Alex!" Dean yelled through the door.
They waited again, this time they heard soft foot steps leading to the door. Then they heard the sound of the chain lock drop and hit the door, before it slowly opened. "What do you want?" Alex asked clearly tired and cranky.
"What's wrong with you?" Dean asked staring at her extremely messed up hair. It was in her face and frizzed all over. He noticed that she was bundled up in flannel pants and layers of shirts which ended with a hoodie on top.
"You have a baby and try to sleep in the same room as it." After she said that, Alex coughed into her left elbow.
"Didn't get much sleep, huh?" Sam asked sympathetically.
"Sleep? I just got her to fall asleep an hour ago." Alex said after she coughed again.
"Oh come on. I'm sure it wasn't that bad." Dean laughed a little.
"That bad?! It was horrible!" Alex said followed by another cough. She was about to yell at Dean some more, but let out a sneeze. Thankfully she had a tissue, because she was looking directly at Dean.
"Are you ok?" Sam asked wrinkling his eyebrows in concern.
"It's nothing. I'm fined." Alex said with a nasally voice.
"Fined? You don't sound fined to me." Dean said clearly mocking her.
"Well I amb." Alex said trying to look normal, but let out another sneeze into her tissue. When she looked up, she saw Dean's hand coming up to her head.
Dean rested his hand on her head and could easily tell that she was sick. "Alex your burning up." Dean sighed as he dropped his hand down to his side.
"No I'mb not. Your hands are just too cold." Alex said crossing her arms.
"Sam, feel her forehead." Dean said also crossing his arms and having a stare down with Alex.
Sam reaches his hand up to her head and also lets out a sigh. "Your sick. Go back to bed." Sam told Alex insistently.
"Guys I'mb telling you-" Alex started.
"And we're telling you to go back to bed." Dean finished.
Even though she wanted to go to bed, Alex was concerned about her daughter. "But I have to feed Hana soon. She needs her formula." Alex said.
Sam smiled at how good of a mother Alex was. "We'll take care of her. Don't worry."
Alex was about to decline, but Dean spoke first. "You don't want to get her sick, do you?" Dean asked, knowing well what her answer would be.
"Fi-" Alex started to say, but saw a grin start to appear on Dean's face. "Alright." Alex turned around and climbed into her bed.
As Sam was getting Hana from the crib that was next the bed, Dean helped Alex get comfortable and pulled a blanket up for her. "Sam's taking Hana and the crib up to our room, while I get some breakfast from downstairs. Do you want me to bring you back something?"
"Some chicken soup would be nice. I'mb not hungry for breakfast now." Alex said pulling the covers up to her chin and snuggling into a ball.
"Ok. Call us if you need anything. In the meantime, I think you should get some rest."
"Two steps ahead of you." Alex said letting out a yawn and holding a tissue up to her nose.
Sam was already in his room with Hana and the crib, as Dean was on his way to get breakfast. The elevator door slid open and Dean walked in and pressed the button to the ground floor. Once the light flashed 'G', he heard what sounded like a lot of people. He got out of the elevator after the doors opened, he walked out of the hallway and saw a small group of people gathered in front of the fireplace. They were whispering and some held their hands over their mouths in shock. Dean made his way through the crowd to see what all the commotion was about. When he got a clear view he stopped.
Laying halfway into the fireplace was a body. The top end was burnt and black, while the legs that were dangling out didn't have any discoloration. Smoke was still coming off of the body as the flames were being put out by a fire extinguisher. Maz, the hotel manager was pushing the crowd back and telling people to go back to their rooms. Dean walked over to him and noticed that the fire was being put out by a young cop. He could tell, because the man had his gun on his belt. Dean made sure to keep his back towards him. "What happened?" Dean asked as he stood next to Maz.
"Mary-Sue, one of the maids, was vacuuming the floor this morning. I saw her when I went to get some papers from my office. When I was in there, I heard somebody scream. So I came out to check what was going on, and to my surprise one of the guests who was trying to check out, found her right where she is now. Only she was covered in flames."
"Did any body see her fall?"
"No, but those might have, if the tapes were actually put in them." Maz said nodding his head towards a security camera above the front desk. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to figure out how to clean up this mess." Maz said then walked over to the cop.
Dean looked at Maz, then checked to see if anyone was around. Once he was certain that nobody was looking, he snuck through the door to the offices. He checked each room until he found the one with security cameras. The footage did get recorded on tape fortunately. After Dean watched what had happened a few times, he quickly pulled the tape out and stuffed it in jacket.
Meanwhile, Sam was up in his room trying to get Hana to fall back asleep. Her eyes finally slowly closed as she eased into a steady sleep. Sam lowered her into the crib and covered her with a blanket. He was about to sit down, but heard a knock at the door. Luckily it wasn't loud enough to wake Hana. Sam opened the door and let Dean in. "You're lucky you didn't wake her up." Sam said pointing to Hana's crib.
"Yeah, well we have worse things to worry about." Dean said while setting a bag with soup in it and two coffee filled cups on the table. "You know we're lucky this hotel has a cafeteria. We're snowed in. Nobody is leaving this place."
"So the shapeshifter has to wait another day and more people die?" Sam asked.
"Its not like we have a choice, Sam. Have you seen it outside?" Dean said pointing to the window behind him with his thumb.
Sam walked over and pulled back the curtain and looked down. All of the cars in the parking lot were buried in the snow. "Great." Sam said as he leaned his head against his arm, which was resting on the window.
"It gets better." Dean said before taking a gulp of his coffee. "Watch this." Dean said tossing the tape on Sam's bed.
"What is it?" Sam asked picking it up and putting it into the VCR.
"Its a security camera that's above the front desk in the lobby." Dean said walking over next to were Sam was sitting on the bed. "Keep an eye on the bottom left hand corner."
Sam watched the corner, then saw a maid come out and start vacuuming the floor. "Wow. A maid cleaning the floor. Yeah, you're right Dean, that is suspicious."
"Just keep watching." Dean said glaring at Sam.
The maid was now in front of the fire place with her back to the camera. Then a dark shadow appeared in the corner. Somebody dressed in a long dark cloak slowly walked over to the maid. Once they were right behind Mary-Sue, they pulled a knife out of their pocket, opened the blade, then slit her throat. After her body went limp, the person shoved her into the fireplace and ran back towards the hallways, which were out of the camera's view. A few minutes after that, the guest trying to check out, came into view.
"Do you think this person killed the man we found in the stairwell?" Sam asked Dean.
"Probably. I'm not sure its a person though. I mean, why would a serial killer go on a killing spree in a hotel where a cop is staying and a lot of witnesses?"
"There's a cop staying here?"
"Yeah. He didn't see me though. But we still have to be careful."
Sam nodded his head and started to watch the tape again. "Hey, I think I found something."
Dean took a seat next to Sam, as he rewound the tape to a certain part.
"Watch the woman that finds maid." Sam said pointing to the screen.
Dean focused on the corner that the guest came from. She appeared on screen and looked at the body and screamed. "Seems like a normal reaction to me."
"Watch it again." Sam said rewinding the tape, then pressing play.
This time Dean noticed that the woman was panting and trying to catch her breath, as she came into view. "Well that's suspicious." Dean said looking at Sam.
"She's the same height too."
"Wait a second. Did you see that?" Dean said pointing to the screen. "Rewind the tape."
"See what?" Sam asked as he rewound the tape again.
"Stop, right there." Dean told Sam with his eyes focused on the screen. "Look at her eyes."
"Shapeshifter." Sam sighed.
