IDENTITY CRISIS CH.2

They found their rooms and split up to unpack. After Sam was done, he unlocked the connecting door to talk to Dean.

"Dean, are you sure staying here is a good idea? I mean that shapeshifter could be killing more people as we speak."

"That could be true, but it's seven hours away without traffic and in this weather we'd be lucky to even make it there by breakfast tomorrow morning." Sam nodded his head in understanding, as Dean tossed his shirt into a drawer. "I'm gonna go to the diner in town. You want anything?"

"Just a turkey sandwich is fine."

"Alright I'll be back in a little bit."

Dean drove to the diner that was ten minutes away. He parked the car and walked inside to order a few sandwiches.

"Your order will be ready shortly. You can take a seat at the bar while you're waiting." The man said after he placed Dean's order.

"Thank you." Dean starts walking towards the bar, weaving through crowds of people that were on their lunch break. "If it will be ready shortly, then why do I have to wait at the bar?" Dean mumbled to himself. He was making progress trough the crowd, until he bumped into somebody rather hard by mistake. "Whoa!" Dean said as he turned to apologize. "I'm so sorry. Are you..." Dean stopped himself when he realized who he had bumped into. "Alex?"

"Dean?" Alex asked just as surprised as he was.

"Wow. Look at you, all pregnant. You look like you're about to explode."

"Gee thanks Dean. Nice to see you to."

"I'm sorry. It's just that the last time I saw you, you were thin. Now you're-"

"Enormous?"

"That wasn't the word I was going to use, but yeah." Alex laughed a little as Dean agreed with her. "You've really changed a lot, since we last saw you. No cast. I bet that feels nice."

"Oh, defiantly. It was such a relief to get that thing off. Now I can walk on my own, except it's a little difficult when you're nine months pregnant."

Dean smiled and nodded his head in agreement with her, then noticed something else that was different. "Your hair is blonde. Alex, what is your real hair color?"

"If I told you, I'd have to kill you."

"You would never do that though. You're too nice." Dean said smirking.
"So what are you doing here?"

"Well Kyle's working in a town not too far from here, so he suggested that I come and visit him for Valentines Day."

"Aren't you two the hallmark movie of the week."

"Shut up." Alex laughed.

"He's working this far away from home?"

"His boss needed some out of town help. It's a really big job and they have a short deadline, so he needed all the help he could get." Right after Alex said that, a thought just came to her. "Wait a minute. There's not a hunt here, is there?" Alex said, softly so nobody else could hear.

"No. I don't think so. Why do you ask?"

"Well if I have this baby here and there is a hunt-"

"Don't worry. We were actually on our way to Powderville, where there is a hunt. We had to stop here for the night."

"Where are you staying?"

"The Tequila Sunrise?"

"So am I."

"You're kidding?"

"No, I'm not.""We're in room 427 and 429."

"I'm in 329. Wait a minute. You got separate rooms?"

"It was Sam's idea and I wasn't about to argue with him."

Alex let out a soft laugh. "I bet."

"Here's your order sir." The waiter said while handing Dean a paper bag.

"Thank you." Turning toward Alex. "Hey. Did you want anything or...?"

"Oh, no. I'm good. I just finished my lunch actually. Thanks anyways."

"Are you sure? I've heard how pregnant women have cravings."

"I'm sure. If I get a sudden craving, I'll just call room 429."

"I suppose you have a ride back to the hotel then?"

"Yeah, I'm just waiting for the bus."

"The bus? Public transportation?"

"it's a nice bus." Alex said in defence of the bus.

"Come on." Dean said grabbing Alex's shoulder with his right hand and spinning her around to face the door.

"What?"

"You're coming with me. I insist." Dean said trying to continue his way towards the door walking behind Alex.

Alex stopped and turned towards Dean. "Dean, I'll be fine."

"Yeah and if Sam finds out that I left your pregnant self here all alone, I'll never hear the end of it. Besides you are my family and I'd feel guilty walking out of that door, knowing you would have to listen to the local radio station, when you could be listening to classic rock."

Alex laughed and turned towards the door. "Alright. I'll go with you."

"I knew you'd see it my way." Dean said while guiding Alex out to his car.

They drove back listening to the music that Dean had promised. Once they were at the hotel, Dean helped Alex get out of the car and into the hotel. They went upstairs and Dean unlocked his door and held it open for Alex.

"Wait here a minute. I'm gonna get Sam."

"Ok."

"Hey Sam!" Dean yelled into the connecting door, while banging it with the back of his knuckles. "Foods here!"

"Aren't you-" Alex began to ask before Dean shushed her. At first she
was confused, then she understood that he wanted it to be a surprise to Sam.

A few seconds later, Sam came through the door and stopped when saw Alex. "Alex?! What are you doing here?" Sam asked as he walked over to Alex and gave her a hug.

"Visiting Kyle for Valentine's day, while he's at work."

"Here. Why don't you take a seat." Offering her one of the cushioned, red chairs. "So, how are you?"

"I'm good. Thank you." Alex said while taking a seat across from the balcony. Dean took the other chair across from her, and Sam grabbed one from his room and sat on the other side. Sam reached into the bag and pulled out a couple of sandwiches. "Sandwiches?" Alex asked a little a uneasy.

"Yeah, why?" Dean asked, but suddenly remembered something. "Wait. Don't tell me you're still freaked out about that dream you had back in Wisconsin?"

"It wasn't just a dream, it was a nightmare."

"Oh come on."

"I died!"

"So? You're alive now."

"Let's see you die and see how you like it."

Dean and Sam exchanged looks. They knew that time was running out for Dean, but neither of them could bring themselves to tell her. Now wouldn't have been the best time any ways, since they just met up for the first time in seven months.

You're right, it was a little mean, but she realizes it was the wrong thing to say.
