IDENTITY CRISIS CH.4

Dean and Sam rushed out of their rooms as soon as they got their coats on. Sam ran down the stairs and out the door, meeting Alex in the hallway, while Dean ran down the stairs to pull up the Impala. Sam quickly walked with Alex to the elevator and they went down to the lobby, where they met Dean. They were both on either side of her, helping her to the car. The snow was coming down harder than before and the wind was blowing like crazy. Dean opened the door, then got into the front seat. After Sam helped Alex get in, he climbed in next to her, sitting behind Dean. Dean pulled out of the parking lot and onto the road.

Alex let a cry of pain.

"Take a deep breath." Sam told Alex while rubbing her back as she did as she was told. "That's it. Keep it up."

"Call Kyle." Alex said between breaths.

Dean whipped out his cell phone and dialed Kyle's number. The phone started ringing, but after a while there was no answer. Dean tried again, but the same thing happened. "He's not answering his phone."

"He's probably at work. That jerk! I'm gonna kill his boss!"

Dean looks at Sam with a 'yikes' look in the rear view mirror. He returns his focus back to the road, but he can't see anything. All he could see was the front of his car, and that was barely visible. The snow was now blizzarding and the roads were really slick. Dean pulled over, because they couldn't go any further. "I can't see anything. We're gonna have to turn around."

"Oh no." Alex says horror.

"What?" Sam and Dean ask simultaneously.

"The baby's coming."

"What do you mean it's coming?" Dean asked worried.

"I mean it's coming!" Alex yelled while holding her stomach.

"As in right now, coming?!" Dean asked surprised this time.

"No! As in next year at this time right now, coming!" Alex yelled at Dean, then lets out a cry of pain.

Dean then gets out of the car and runs to the other side behind the passenger seat, then opens the door. "Now what do we do?" Dean says, looking at Alex holding her stomach, and crying out in pain.

"We have to deliver the baby." Sam answers.

"Whoa. Wait a minute. What do you mean 'we'? I'm not a doctor."

"Dean, she's having this baby now. We don't have a choice."

"That's funny. You keep saying 'we' and yet you're still in the car."

"Well I figured since you're already out, that...uh"

"That what?"

"That you'd-"

"Oh no. I don't think so."

"Well somebody has do it."

"There's only one way to settle this." Dean climbed into the car and held up his hand in a fist. He nods towards Sam's hand and he does the same. They smack their fists into their hands three times. Dean lost with scissors to Sam's rock. "Best two out of three."

"Fine."

They are about to start another round, which irritated Alex. The pain was getting more intense and they were playing childish games. Alex had enough of this and smacked their hands away, which took them by surprise. "Just deliver the freaking baby!"

"Dean."

Dean pauses for a minute glaring at Sam. "Fine!" Dean blurts out through his teeth. He backs out of the car and waits as Sam helps Alex into the right position. Alex has her head resting on Sam's chest, laying across the bench, while he's sitting sideways facing Dean. The more Dean stands there and thinks about what he has to do, the more grossed out he gets."I can't do it."

"What?" Sam asked in disbelief.

"I'm sorry, but I can't do it."

"Dean, you have to!"

"I...but...it." Dean stammered while looking at Sam pathetically.

"Fine, I'll do it! Just get over here, so she has something to lean on." As Dean gets out of the car, Sam could have sworn that he heard a 'Yes' come out of Dean's mouth. Dean grabbed a blanket and towel out of the trunk and handed it to Sam, who was now sitting where Dean was. Sam gets ready for the baby, then starts to get a little weirded out. Unfortunately it was obvious to Dean, by the expression on his face.

"Something wrong, Sam?" Dean asked with a smirk on his face.

"No." Sam tried to hide it, but his face twisted into disgust.

"Oh come on Sam, It's just a beautiful and natural thing." Dean replied mocking his little brother.

"Shut up." Sam took a deep breath, then realized... "I have no idea what I'm doing." After he said that he looked up to see Dean giving him a 'What the h***?' look.

"What?!" Alex looked Sam with a worried 'Are you kidding me?!' type of look.

"Way to help calm her down Sam! Even I knew to keep that comment to myself!"

"Oh my God." Alex started crying and laying back further into Dean.

"It's ok, I got an idea. Dean, call the hospital so they can talk us through this."

"Good idea." Dean dialed the number. "Alex you need to sit up a little, ok?" Dean helped push Alex up a little. When he got an answer on the phone, he explained the situation and the secretary put a doctor on. He told Dean what to do as Dean reported it back to Sam.

"Alright, Alex. Are you ready?" Sam asked while sitting in front of her.

"No."

Dean told the doctor what she said. "Alex, the doctor wants to know what's wrong."

"Kyle's not here, that's what what's wrong!"

"Alex?" Sam said trying to get her attention. "Alex look at me. This baby is coming and if we don't do this right now, then Kyle may never get to see your baby." Sam knew that it was a harsh thing to say, but it was the only way to get through to her at this point.

"O-ok." Alex stuttered in pain, then takes a deep breath.

Dean hands his phone over to Sam, and slides his arms under Alex's, then held her hands. "Grab my hands. From what I hear, this is not going to be pleasant."

Alex nodded her head and took a grip of Dean's hands.

"Ok, Alex. On three I want you push as hard as you can, alright?" Sam counted to three and Alex pushed as hard as she could, screaming in agony. Alex got tense and started crying more. The pain was unbearable, she gripped Dean's hands as tight as she could. This kept up for a while. "Alright. This is it Alex. Just one more push. You can do it."

"No, I can't." Alex said crying.

"Come on Alex. You're almost there." Sam encouraged her

"This one last push and it'll all be over." Dean added, while leaning closer to Alex, so she could get a better push.

"This is it Alex." Sam said as a final warning.

Alex gripped Dean's hands tighter than before and pushed harder than ever. Sweat made her hair stick to her face, as it wrinkled from the pain. Through all her screaming and crying, another cry could be heard. It wasn't familiar, it was new. It was the sound of her new born child crying as it was welcomed into the world, by Sam's warm hands.

After Sam hung up the phone, he cleaned the baby up with the towel and wrapped it up in the warm blanket. Alex relaxed and tried to catch her breath, while leaning back into Dean's chest.

"Hey, it's ok. It's all over." Dean said trying to comfort Alex, while rubbing her arms. He had noticed that her arms were cold. In all the panic, she didn't have time to grab her coat.

"You did a good job Alex." Sam said holding up her baby and closing the door. "Congratulations. You have a daughter."

"She's beautiful." Alex said as Sam handed her over. She had stopped crying from pain, and was now crying from being so happy.

"And tiny." Dean added looking down at the newest member of the Winchester family. "But not as tiny as her mommy was seven months ago."

They all laughed a little and smiled at the baby girl.
