IDENTITY CRISIS CH.8

"Bang! Bang! You'll never get away!"

"Watch me!" The little boy replied to his older brother. "Bang, bang, bang!" He ran under the bed holding a squirt gun, while he was being chased by his little brother.

"All right boys, that's enough. Time for bed." The mother smiled at her two boys playing together.

"Aww, come on mom. Just a little bit longer, please?" The older boy asked as he crawled out from under the bed.

"No. You're gonna wake up the neighbors. Now get up off the floor and into your beds."

"Aww." Both boys whined as they climbed into their beds.

The mother walked over to each bed to pull up their sheets, then gave them each a kiss on the head. She then turned off the lamp between their beds and walked over to the door next to the closet. "Good night boys." She said as she closed the door. She lets out a sigh and turns around to look at her empty bed. "Oh Richard?" She said playfully. Karen walked over to the bathroom door and pushed it open. The room was dark and empty, no sign of her husband. "He did say that he was going to be up here by ten, right?" Karen asked herself.

Meanwhile; Richard was at the bar finishing off his third beer.

"You want another?" The bartender asked while whipping down the bar.

"What time is it?" Richard asked more to himself. He checked his watch and shook his head. "No, I'm runnin' late actually. I was supposed to meet up with my wife for Valentine's Day."

"That's fine. Here's your bill." The man said handing Richard a receipt.

After he payed the bill, Richard turned around and started walking down the hall. He passed many rooms and finally reached the stairwell. His room was on the second floor, and he preferred to take the stairs over the elevator. He was about to take a step upstairs, but saw a woman. She was wearing a long black cloak with a hood that covered up most of her face. The woman didn't say a word, she only smiled at him devilishly, then she turned around and walked outside.

The mystery woman was so intriguing that Richard decided his wife could wait a little longer. So he followed the woman outside. After he left the hotel, he looked around for the mystery woman, but didn't see her anywhere. He rubbed his arms from the bitter cold wind. After a minute of waiting, he decided to forget about the mystery woman and go back up to his room. As his hand touched the door knob, he caught a glimpse of the woman in the corner of his right eye.

He quickly turned his head to face her. She used her finger to tell him to come towards her. Richard looked at his watch and knew that his wife would be worried, but when he looked up the mystery woman had walked around the corner of the building and out of site.

Richard's curiosity got the better of him and he hid his watch under his sleeve and walked around the corner. Sure enough, there she was waiting for him. He slowly walked over to her. Once he got up to her, he wrapped his arms around her and tried to kiss her.

The woman quickly held up her gloved hand and placed a single finger over his mouth. She waved her finger at him, telling him no.

He pulled back confused. "I don't understand."

"You will." She whispered into his ear, sending chills down his spine.

"What?" Richard said with a chuckle. This was getting too weird for him, but he couldn't resist her mystique.

"It's too bad." She saw Richard give her a confused look. "It's too bad that your wife will never know that you cheated on her."

Richard gave her a big grin and went to kiss her, but stopped dead in his tracks. He felt an intense pain in his stomach that was worse than any stomach cramp he had ever had before. Then a warm liquid ran down his body. He looked down and saw an icicle sticking inside of him and blood pouring out of him. Richard looked up at the woman in horror.

"She'll never know, because you'll be dead." She said with a wicked grin. She pulled the icicle out and stabbed him again. This time she got one of his lungs, because he was bent over in pain.

"No." He cried as he saw the woman get ready to stab him again. "I want to see to my kids again, and Karen..." Blood started to drizzle out of his mouth.

"You should have thought about that before you cheated on your wife with those other women."

Before Richard could ask how she knew that, the woman stabbed him in the heart.

He fell to his knees as she pulled out the icicle. Then his body finally fell face first into the snow.

Her job was done for the night, so she looked at the clear blood stained icicle and dropped it into the snow. She casually walked around his dead body and around the corner. The snow started to come down and buried the icicle as the woman walked inside the building. By morning the snow would leave a thin layer on the man's body.

"A guy got stabbed last night." Sam said entering his room with breakfast and coffee.

Dean was sitting at the table while holding Hana in his arms. "So whatever is killing these people, is doing their thing at night."

"Which means tomorrow morning another person will be dead." Sam said closing the door and walking over to his bed.

"So how do we stop it from happening again?" Dean asked looking at Sam.

"I don't know, but we have to figure this out soon. I don't want Alex to find out about all this. Once she gets better, she's gonna go downstairs and will probably hear the rumors about all the deaths." Sam said as he set the coffee and food down on the table. "Has Alex woken up yet?"

"Yeah, she was going to take a shower. She wanted me to let her know when you got back with the food."

Sam sat there waiting for a minute while he looked at his brother. "Um, aren't you going to call her?"

"Right now?" Dean asked as if he was busy.

"You just said that she told you to call her when the food was here."

"Yeah." Dean said casually and still not getting up. "So what's your point?"

"Don't you think you should call her or go down to her room?" Sam asked with small laugh.

"Uh, no."Dean said while picking up a bottle with warm milk in it.

"Why not?" Sam said trying to understand why Dean was being difficult.

"Because she'll try to steal the baby from me again." Dean explained.

Sam was still confused and asked, "Again?"

"When I picked Hana up this morning, Alex tried to convince me to let her stay. She tried climbing out of bed, but she ended up tripping on her bed sheets."

Sam winced a little. "Ouch. Did she scrape her knees?"

"Not that bad." Dean said as he tried to feed Hana. "So what do we think this thing is? Spirit? Demon? Vampire? What? It could be anything?"

"I'm not sure. I'm gonna go on the computer and..." As if on cue, the lights flickered and went out. "Great." Sam sighed as he went over to his bag to get his flashlight. "So much for looking online." Sam muttered.

"There's always the library." Dean said with a shrug.

"Right. Like I'm going to walk through two feet of snow to a library that I have no idea where it is located, besides I didn't see one when we drove here."

"Good point." Dean said then looked back at Hana. "Looks like we have to wing it then." Dean sighed and looked back at Sam, because he wasn't making progress with Hana. "Lets just assume its a spirit. I mean it has a pattern, which is to kill one person a night."

"Which means tonight we should get ready to..." Sam trailed off because he saw Dean was struggling to get Hana to drink the milk. "Problems?"

Dean looked up at Sam with a sigh and said, "I don't think she likes me."

"If you're trying to get out of feeding her, you can forget it. It's not working" Sam said as he was looking in his bag with the flashlight.

"Hey. I'm trying, but the runt keeps spittin' it out at me." Dean said as he made another attempt to feed Hana the milk.

Sam lets out a sigh "Give me the bottle."

"Fine. I doubt she'll be any better with you." Dean carefully handed over Hana and the bottle to Sam.

"Come on Hana." Sam said softly to the baby girl. He tilted the bottle a little and she spit it out.

"I told you." Dean said with a smirk.

Sam sighed, "While I try to feed her, why don't you scan the hotel for EMF. That way we can see if it is or isn't a demon or spirit."

"Yeah, alright." Dean sighed as he walked into his room to get his flashlight and find his homemade EMF reader. "Hey, where was that guy found?"

"Right outside the stairwell door and around the corner. Nobody found the weapon yet, so keep your eyes peeled."

Dean nodded his head and walked out the door. His first stop would be the recent crime scene were the man was stabbed.
